Getting a freelancing job to make money as a Freelancer seems quite tough for the newbie. But most of the time the expert guys who have enough skills might be in mess while trying to get into this outsourcing marketplace. As the first impression is very much important in perspective of a buyer at the moment of deciding the best contractor for a job; a job seeker like you should be as smart as this selling process required to be.
We have gotten lots of questions (via emails, messages) from various Bangladeshi guys about how to get the very first freelancing jobs easily and why still they are not getting any freelancing jobs after trying lots of time.
In this case we have been seeking a successful freelancer who has struggled a lot to get his first freelancing job. Here, we have found the Neo Tanvir Ahmed is one of the perfect guy who have shared everything about what the mistakes newbie freelancers does usually and how to get rid of these.
Here is what that expert says to Freelancer Care authority:-
Freelancer Care: Hi Tanvir, we know you have been for a long time in this freelancing world. How about your first several days of your freelancing career?
Tanvir: Frankly speaking, I had to struggle a lot to get my first job. As I didn’t have much online exposure and any rich portfolio; I was declined for too many works I applied. But when I got the very first job; I didn’t had to look back.
Freelancer Care: Well, then what did you exactly do to get your very first job and what was your mistakes for not getting any freelancing job?
Tanvir: Whenever I was not getting hired by any buyers, I was desperate enough and trying to figure out what wrong is happening with me. I read lots of resources online along with the various outsourcing case studies from where I got some kick-ass method to rich my profile that really enriched my overall profile resume.
Freelancer Care: Tanvir, would you please tell our reader about what the stuffs you got that you missed to implement in your own profile earlier?
Tanvir: I had several huge mistakes on my profile like: Comparatively Higher Rates (though I was newbie), irrelevant and unprofessional profile picture, lots of grammatical errors on my BIO and the cover letters also, inadequate experience on the sector I want to work, lacking of rich online portfolio and so many other stuffs.
Freelancer Care: As you mentioned that higher rate created problem to you. So, would you please suggest something to our readers about what the perfect Bidding Rates and what the newbie should adopt in for getting the first freelancing job?
Tanvir: Higher Rates will definitely harm your career as you are just starting your freelancing career. There are lots of skilled freelancers already in this marketplace for the same skills you are trying to sell. The buyers will definitely ignore you when they will find the most skilled freelancer than you with lower rates. So, my suggestion for the freelancercare.com readers are would be: just make sure that your Hourly Rates is as lower as it should be. When you will own more skills and you will be accomplishing more jobs, you can change your Hourly rates at anytime you can. But here, I would like to tell one thing, never underestimate yourself and don’t make your hourly rate too many lower as it might represent your disqualification to the prospective buyers.
Freelancer Care: Is there anything that you will definitely tell our readers to put proper attention to?
Tanvir: Yes definitely. The crucial tasks you should do just now are: change your profile picture now with a professional one. Make sure it is smiling and in high resolution. Grammatical errors are really very bad factors that create bad impressions. So, whatever you write on your profile and cover letter, make sure it is grammatical err free. Never add any false skills on your profile and be honest always. Add as much work links as you can on your resume. Listen, outsourcers are here to build their business using freelancers like you and they never want a freelancer who are not responsible enough and can’t deliver the works in time. So, choose the right niche on which you have real passion and feel interested to and build sufficient skills upon it so that you can deliver the best to your buyers exactly in time.
Freelancer Care: Is there anything more you want to tell our readers?
Tanvir: Never give up. Keep bidding on Jobs and it should be more often and within one hour when the Jobs or Projects are posted on the Freelance Job Board. Because its matter of professionalism. Success is the matter of patience and hard work. So keep trying until you reach your goal.

I disagree with Tanvir on rates. Infact, beginners just starting out need to have higher rates. Why? Because not all buyers make decisions based on price. And you’re better off with a buyer who’s paying more, than a very demanding buyer who pays less.
Real-Life Lessons in the Delicate Art of Setting Prices:
http://ow.ly/bWl2a
Imagine I am a company and I posted a job on oDesk. Now, I can see 60 people have applied. Lets say 80% of the applicants are in the $0-5 range, and the rest are in the $10-15 range. There’s no differentiation among all the applicants which makes me hard to process it, or notice anyone. In this sense, it’s better to have a higher price — the person with the higher fee will stand out.
In this sense, the key is to master writing great cover letters, and sending a lot of them. With persistance and time, you’ll have great contracts at awesome fees.
